General NotesThere is much confusion regarding this butterfly and exactly where it "fits" taxonomically. Not only is there a question as to what genus to place it in but also whether or not there are two separate species, the Northern Hairstreak (Fixsenia ontario) and the Southern Hairstreak (F. favonius) or if the two are the same. Whatever the case may be, our local subspecies is autolycus. Overwinters: Egg.
