Frostweed -- Verbesina virginica

Many species of butterflies utilize the nectar rich blossoms, but monarchs especially find it irresistible.

The source of the common name is evident after the first hard freeze.
Stems at the base of the plant split and sap in the plant freezes making some unusual ice-like formations.
